Dr Noormala Amir Ishak is a
Professor at the
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia and currently is the
Dean of the Faculty of Business Management. She is a lecturer specializing in the area of human resource management. Her current research areas relate to organizational citizenship behaviour, organizational justice, individual innovativeness, leader member exchange, emotional intelligence, human resource practices, self-esteem, and organizational learning. Dr Noormala has
26 years of teaching experience at the university. She joined Universiti Teknologi MARA in 1984 under UiTM’s Young Lecturer Scheme. She has held positions as the Deputy Dean (Quality and Research), Management Coordinator and Head of Program for Human Resource Management program in the faculty. She earned her doctorate (Human Resource Management), Master’s (Management and Organization), and Bachelor’s (Management and Administration) degrees from Universiti Sains Malaysia, University of New Haven, USA and Indiana University, USA respectively.
Dr Noormala is actively involved in writing papers and has presented many papers in conferences all over the world. The academic conferences that she has attended and presented papers were those held in Korea, Japan, Australia, France, New Zealand, and Austria. She has a passion in focusing her writings in the
area of organizational citizenship behaviour, which had been the main focus of topic in her PhD thesis. To her credit she has many refereed articles in proceedings and also several refereed articles published in journals such as International Journal of Innovation and Learning; Research and Practice in Human Resource Management; International Business Research; International Journal of Business and Management; The International Journal of Knowledge, Culture and Change; and Journal of Management and World Business Research.
Dr Noormala has also involved herself in several research projects with other members in the Faculty of Business Management. Some of the completed research done were those relating to
critical success and failure factors of small-medium enterprise in Malaysia; cognitive and affective information use of tourists visiting Taman Negara; utilization of the Human Resource Development Fund by hotels in Klang Valley and most recently in a study on knowledge sharing of employees in PNB Malaysia. Her team and she have managed to secure grants for all these research projects.
Dr Noormala has over 26 years of active teaching in the fields of human resource management, human resource development, organizational behaviour, management, management of change, organization design and strategic management. She has taught students at all levels: diploma, degree, master’s as well as doctoral. She has
authored a book titled 'Justice, Innovativeness and Organizational Citizenship Behavior' and this book has been referred to by many, locally and internationally.
Dr Noormala has
supervised several doctoral dissertations (leading to PhD) and also many master’s theses (leading to MBA degree). She also actively conducts
consulting and training programs on a fairly regular basis with the government sector as well as private organizations in Malaysia.
